Heidschnucken Trail (total distance 223 km)

Enjoy the endless expanse of Lüneburg Heath on Germany's northernmost "Top Trail of Germany". Certified by the Deutschen Wanderverband (German Hiking Association), the trail links more than 30 larger and smaller heathland areas between Hamburg-Fischbek and Celle, like pearls on a chain. It connects Rosengarten Regional Park as well as the two Nature Parks of Lüneburg Heath and Südheide. The path winds over 220 km through fragrant juniper-lined valley basins, forests that feel ancient, and a mosaic of fields, meadows and wooded areas – and always the views of the heather-covered slopes delight the eye.

Wooden boardwalks cross mysterious raised bogs. Between the heathland pearls, you will discover varied river valleys and heathland streams with clear, cold water. The trail goes through small heathland settlements that have preserved their original character, and passes large farmsteads and fieldstone churches under mighty oaks. The route takes you from Hamburg-Fischbek via Buchholz, Wilsede, Soltau and Müden (Örtze) to Celle.

Tip: Get the Heidschnucken Trail pin badge in bronze, silver or gold with the hiking pass (Wanderpass).
